Our Story
Hampden Hills Tax Service, Inc. (HHTS) began as a part-time business in 1978 in the home of Bill Gervase. Bill decided to name the business after the neighborhood that he lived in.
HHTS was one of the first tax businesses in the Roanoke area to prepare taxes using a computer system. In 1985, we assisted with the IRS’s beta test pilot for their new e-file program, which launched in 1986. HHTS has always strived to be a leader in use of technology in the services we offer to our clients.
In 1991, HHTS incorporated and moved from Bill’s home to Vinton, Virginia. In 1994, Phillip Gervase, Bill’s son started working as a preparer.
In May 2006, we moved a couple offices down located in the same building on W. Virginia Ave. We launched our website on March 14, 2009. Over the years, HHTS has grown, from a humble home business into a trusted resource for all of your tax and financial needs.
In 2016, after 38 years Bill Gervase retired and sold the business to his son Phillip. Today, Phillip and the rest of the staff continue to work hard to serve your needs.
On October 1, 2023, we moved from W. Virginia Ave to our current location at 101 N. Blair Street Vinton VA 24179.

Phillip Gervase, E.A.
President
Phillip began his career with HHTS as a preparer in 1994. He worked part-time until July of 1999 when he transitioned to a full-time employee. Phillip became an Enrolled Agent (E.A.) on May 16, 2006. He has extensive tax law knowledge in individuals, estates, trusts, & business tax returns.
Elexa Peters, E.A.
Tax Preparer
Elexa started with us in 2017 as a Tax Preparer. Prior to that, she had 5 years of experience working in the banking and credit union field. She became an Enrolled Agent on February 11, 2021. Elexa is a valued employee that seeks to assist her clients to achieve the best tax outcome available.
HHTS Receptionists
Receptionist & Bookkeeper
The HHTS receptionists are a crucial part of our team. They assist and greet our clients while directing questions and calls to the appropriate staff member. Additionally, our front-end receptionist has been trained in payroll and bookkeeping, including taking college bookkeeping courses.
